Find me on:

It's time for another Varsity Vocals ICCA/ICHSA Aca-Wrap Up! This #WrapUpWednesday, there were no ICCA Semifinals, so it's all about high school today!

Here's your wrap up for the March 18th ICHSA Quarterfinals and Semifinals.

Mid-Atlantic - Quarterfinal #4

Our final quarterfinal of the intensely competitive Mid-Atlantic region was a close race for our top two finishing groups! Advancing to semifinals this on April 1st, our victors, Plainview's Drastic Measures just narrowly took the Quarterfinal Championship title, earning 342 points, only one point ahead of the second place group, Rye Neck High School's Rhythm on Rye. Drastic Measures delivered an impressive, award-winning set, earning two Outstanding Awards for their version of Rihanna's "What Now," arranged and performed by Jennifer Lancaster. Nice double threat, Jennifer! Rhythm on Rye wasn't left empty handed however - they'll also advance to semifinals, with a special award for Owen Glassberg's vocal percussion for the entire set in tow.  Northern Highlands Regional High School's Highlands Belles secured the third place spot, earning 323 points for the evening. Additionally, the judges chose to award two more special awards to some deserving individuals - Angelica Binot of Scarlet Sound for her solo of "Writing's On The Wall," and Holly Block of PACapellas for their choreography for the entire set.

Here are your competitors for the ICHSA Mid-Atlantic Semifinal on April 1st at Cherry Hill High School's East Auditorium in Cherry Hill, NJ! The winner of this round will advance to The International Championship of High School A Cappella Finals on April 21st at The Town Hall in New York City.

Great Lakes - Semifinal

The Ohio Valley area has been a breeding ground for incredibly successful scholastic a cappella groups in recent years, and this year is no exception! Advancing to the ICHSA Finals on April 21st, The Miami Valley School's Ars Nova completely eradicated the competition, coming in nearly 100 points over the rest of the competing groups that night! Their 384 point set also landed them a special award for their choreography for the entire set! In second place, Central Catholic/Oakland Catholic's Free Verse earned 299 points for their set, as well as two special awards - both for Tucker Helms' arrangement of "Believer," and vocal percussion for the entire set! 2KO! Way to clean up! They'll be advancing to the ICHSA Wild Card Round for another chance at advancing to Finals. Skyline High School's Skyline Blues took home third place, earning 297 points, just two behind Free Verse! They'll also have a second chance at advancing to Finals through Wild Card. The judges also felt inclined to give out a couple solo awards for some incredible solos from some groups that didn't place! Angelo Knight of Vega took home a solo award for "I'll See You Again," and Alyya Scott of Evolution grabbed the other solo award for "Hit 'Em Up Style."

Congratulations to Ars Nova for advancing to The International Championship of High School A Cappella Finals on April 21st at The Town Hall in New York City!
